Suggestions

Anytime we approach the Word of God we must be willing to learn what the passage is saying. A lot of the time we allow our tradition to dictate what a certain passage says or does not say. We need to find out what it really says in context.

I want to give a few suggestion to help those of you that do not really know how to study the word of God.

1. Read the book all the way through without going in to an in depth study. This way you can get the flow of what the author is trying to say.

2. Start to go through the book verse by verse, but make sure to keep each section in context. If you take passages out of context, you will not understand correctly.

3. Ask yourself the following questions.
-Who is the author?
-Where was it written too? (or who?)
-Why was it written?
-When was it written?
-What kind of genre is it? (Historicle, Epistle, Gospel etc...)
-How does it apply to you?

These are just a few basic tips for bible study. If you want to know more about bible study the resources can be found at the following website under the bible school messages section.

Update

I was going to start going verse by verse through the book of John on my blog at www.expoundingtruth.blogspot.com. I have determined that will not be possibe due to my schedule. So instead I will hit and miss on various texts as I study them. Most of my spare time will be used to go through "Framework for Christian Faith" by Galyn Wiemers. A great bible school in a book.

The Reason

In order to get a good grasp on the book of John, it is beneficial to find out who wrote the book, why they wrote it, and who they wrote it too. It is also important to know why they wrote it. I will answer these questions as we go through the book it self. I believe the best way to start a complete study of this book is to see why the author said he wrote it.

John 20:30-31
Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

If you desire a full explanation of the introduction to the gospel of John visit the following site and listen to the introduction messages from Galyn Wiemers. Excellent resources. If I was to write out this intro it would basically be quoting his entire message so go get it directly before we proceed further.

Motivation

A while back I was going through google looking for bible teaching. I ran across a web site called Generation Word. I had never heard of the bible teacher at that time, so I stopped and checked it out. From that day which was well over a year ago if not longer, I have visited this site daily. It is packed full of great verse by verse teachings. The teacher is Galyn Wiemers, and he is truly a man sent by God for this purpose. I have recently been in contact with Mr. Wiemers and he has really helped me by answering some question I have struggled with for a time now.

Honestly it is galyn Wiemer's teaching that has inspired me to go deeper, and to teach the Word of God verse by verse. I have his blog to the right of this post. His teaching site is as following.
www.generationword.com
You will find teachings, studt helps, and even online videos of the Bible School he teaches. You will not be the same. Check it out.

Expounding the Truth

I will begin shortly to start going through the Gospel ccording to John verse by verse. I believe that this book is one of the most loved, most read, and most misunderstood books of the New Testament. I am excited about this opportunity. As I study to truly understand this great work of God, I will release the truth on this blog. Enjoy the truth of God's word.
